Discovering the past of my ancestors has incredibly enriched my life. I would love to inspire others to do the same, because it is such a unique experience, and yet it is available to every one of us. It allows us to preserve these threads of lineage for future generations.
If you know the stories of your roots, I will be glad when you share them, so together we can map a Slovakia full of extraordinary stories. And if you don't know them, perhaps I've given you motivation to find out.

You don't need to know every detail about your ancestors. Even a small fragment will do: what they did, where they lived, how people remember them.
Crafts, farming, education. Whether they spent their whole life in one place or travelled. How their family remembers them. A few sentences are enough, but feel free to write more.
If you have old photographs and would like to share them, upload them with the story, up to 3 photos. An old photograph gives a face to the story, but it is not required.
In the map you can find stories by region, period, or surname. Your submission will appear on the site after approval by an administrator.
This is one of the most precious things that can happen on this map. If a story catches your eye, a familiar surname, a village your family comes from, you can send the author a message directly through the story. Your email address is never made public; the author receives your message securely, without seeing your contact details unless you choose to share them yourself.
